Welcome to Stephen Minnesota

City Information

Small town America is a great place to live, and one of the finest small towns in America is Stephen, Minnesota!  Nestled in the Red River Valley of the North in Northwest Minnesota, is this city of approximately 700 residents.  We are located on Highway 75, 40 miles south of the Canadian border and 15 miles east of North Dakota.
Stephen, Minnesota offers most of the conveniences of much larger towns, while maintaining that friendly "small town feeling".  We take great pride in our excellent schools, recreational facilities, churches and the continued involvement of our many volunteers.  The tree-lined streets, well-maintained homes and the friendly people make Stephen a fantastic place to visit and a wonderful place to live! We encourage you to take some time to get to know us better, Read all about us, request a personal tour, or stop by for lunch or dinner.

"Second Century of Growth and Progress"

It was the rich, black soil that attracted the first settlers, and is still recognized as one of the greatest assets.  The flat prairie, left by the prehistoric Lake Agassiz, is bordered on the east by the woods of northern Minnesota; to the west, the Red River of the North forms the border; and the world famous lakes of the state are both north and south.  The four seasons of the region follow an overall pattern enjoyed by residents.  While some other merits respect and may sometimes slow activity in the area, most of the devastating forms of weather that strike other parts of the country are never seen here.  Bright, blue skies, long days, and clean, clear air please the crops - and the people.
Small Town Atmosphere With All the Amenities

The idea that bigger is better has been repeatedly disproven within our school system.  Most recently on a statewide Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments test, the Stephen/Argyle elementary grades 3-5 placed 14th out of 353 school districts. Settling our nation required deep conviction and strong faith.  These assets have been passed on from generation to generation - they are most visible in our people's commitment to family, church, and community. Our clean, quiet neighborhoods are reminiscent of an earlier time.  Residents enjoy the solitude and grace afforded a smaller community, yet they are not isolated from the amenities available to larger cities.  As the phrase goes "You set your own pace".  Whether it be the arts, sports, or recreation, the opportunities are here for you.
