Marshall County Sheriff's Department

The City of Stephen is supported by the Marshall County Sheriff's Department with routine patrols throughout the area.

The monitoring and investigation of all ordinances also fall under the department's authority.  The department investigates and issues requests for permits for liquor licenses, peddler, solicitor and transient merchant permits to sell within the city.

The department conducts Crime Prevention, Safety Education and Police Public Relations seminars in the local schools, churches and community service organizations.

The department is responsible for the enforcement of all city ordinances and state statutes.

Public service duties include Driver education talks, drug prevention talks, Babysitting Clinic, Snowmobile and firearms instruction, Bicycle Safety and several other safety courses, and a 17-week D.A.R.E. instruction with Stephen/Argyle School District.

Emergency Weather

In case of inclement weather, Stephen residents are advised to turn to Radio Station KNOX, Grand Forks, Crookston 1590 AM.  The Civil Defense siren warning will also be activated to alert residents of severe weather approaching.

"911"

A "911" emergency telephone system for police/fire/medical emergencies is operational in the City of Stephen.  Simply dial "9-1-1" and you will receive assistance.

Civil Defense

All equipment and information pertaining to civil defense are housed in the Emergency Services building.  The building next to the city water tower (known as the Filteration Plant) is an official tornado shelter.

Stephen Volunteer Fire Department

The Stephen Volunteer fire Department consists of well-trained volunteers who are on call 24 hours a day.  They pride themselves in maintaining and acquiring the most modern up-to-date equipment that financing will allow.  This volunteer organization serves one of the state's largest districts contracting their services to the rural townships in the area.

The apparatus and equipment are housed in the Emergency Services building located downtown.  Each of the volunteer members has a pager and fire alerts are sounded by siren.

Drills and training are held monthly in house, and throughout the year by state certified instructors.

Stephen Volunteer Ambulance Service

The Stephen Volunteer Ambulance Service provides on call service 24 hours a day to Stephen and several surrounding townships.  SVAS is a Basic Life Support service providing EMT and 1st responding personnel trained in CPR, defibrillation and other life saving techniques.

The volunteer organization, which is housed in the Emergency Services building, transports to area hospitals.

SVAS recently observed their 25th anniversary of service to the community.
